Mawney Close: Semi Independent Housing

Architectural rendering of semi-independent supported housing development at Mawney Close, Romford

Client: London Borough of Havering

Location: Romford

Status: Completed

The new housing scheme involved the demolition and redevelopment of disused council owned garages at the end of a cul-de-sac to create a wheelchair accessible two storey supported living development. The proposal provides high quality semi independent accommodation for young adults aged 18 to 24, supporting the transition to independent living within a safe and structured environment.

The scheme comprises eight self-contained studio units with on site staff and shared learning facilities, including dining and living spaces, to support the transition to independent living. The design follows autism friendly principles, promoting wellbeing through considered layouts, materials, and sensory planning, with a focus on sustainable construction and BREEAM certification.

External works include four car parking spaces, including one accessible bay, a secure cycle store, and communal outdoor spaces with soft landscaping, allotment planters, and a dedicated sensory garden.
